It's not a case of British English vs American... they're different words.
OP wasn't a jerk about it, simply pointed out the mistake (and the lack of urgency on a fix) and left it. Why anyone felt the need to subsequently QQ about grammar police or try to, I don't even know, explain that soldiers don't care about the spelling so neither should a fictional copywriter... I don't understand.
EDIT: Unless the gun actually fires antimatter, in which case the word choice may be correct. |

This is like saying that if you use an anti-aircraft gun to kill a pigeon, it's no longer an anti-aircraft gun. |

I'm trying to find "material" used in place of "materiel" on the Air Force Materiel Command's website... but they keep using the words in their correct places instead. |

Your source was "talk to the people who shoot them"... as if the difference can be determined in conversation... or the people wielding the weapons are the ones designing and naming them. |

Many people spelled it as anti-material so much for so long that it had to be accepted as a spelling alternative. Fun fun! That's a totally valid source you've got there.
An anti-material rifle is designed to shoot holes in fabric. |

It uses armour piercing bullets specifically tailored (see what I did there?) to penetrate woollen sweaters. |

I see your references and raise you a "nope, I know a soldier who doesn't care how you spell it". |

Strangely, they are two separate and distinct words which entered the English language at different times and via different routes. Material and materiel are separate words, but materiel is sometimes incorrectly spelled material. FTFY. |

You're doing the exact same thing with the opposing viewpoint.
I can't find any sources, except for an unsupported wiki comment, that agree with you. |

Pretty sure things can be commented on without slowing the progress on hit detection etc.
If not, we might as well dismiss all threads relating to things which aren't the very most critical issue. |
